statement   about

For the past forty years I have been engaged in exploring the relationship between space and form, working in both two and three dimensional media. The wonder of the creative process is that with each attempt to understand some aspect of composition or to clarify some experience of form, I am confronted with a dozen new problems and ideas. The result is that I find myself revisiting an idea again and again, trying each time to say something more clearly.

Each piece of sculpture tries in some way to state the unique relationship of space with form, or human form and structure with the space around it. Hopefully, through the subjects of parenting, personal growth and change within ourselves, the images provoke some thoughtful reflection on beauty, form, and the space we share.

My ceramic work is both functional and sculptural. I enjoy the direct nature of clay and try to convey a sense of spontaneity in the pieces I produce. The functional work is mostly stoneware, while the ceramic sculpture pieces are largely Raku.
